Experiencing feelings of overwhelm or impending disaster?

Economic collapse, social isolation, wars, genocide, sanctions, and threats of wars got you down? Even the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists started this year by moving the Doomsday clock "the closest it has ever been to catastrophe" (89 seconds to midnight). There's just no rest for the well informed!

Certainly there are good reasons for a sense of doom. The West was more or less on one path until 9-11 bifurcated public opinion. Two decades later, the public was split again with COVID-19, framed in much the same way. After these and numerous lesser bifurcations, you could say those of us who read and support alternative press, and those who read and write books are out on a limb. Or, in a lifeboat. Either way, we're in good company!

From where we sit, we see the centuries-old dominant clinging desperately to the past, while the majority of the world is transitioning to a much more fair, logical and equitable global multipolar, polycentric world. A global bifurcation causing increasing turbulence. The final outcome seems inevitable, exciting and encouraging. And, could be a century off. There is no question we need to be prepared.

There are definitely things you can do personally to reinforce your position, and the Titanic Lifeboat Academy is here to support your efforts.

2025 marks 20 years for TLA's efforts compiling geo-politcal, economic, and climate chaos news from around the world to underscore the rising

Beginning with a radio show 2006-2008) and  Internship program (2005-2016), then ECO-stays (2010-2013), timebanking (2011-2017), gift economy (2006-2011, 2016), seed exchanges and seed saving (2009-2014), emergency preparedness (2007- ongoing), emergency communications (2024-ongoing), food security, TLA has supported the building and stocking of our individual lifeboats to create a kind of personal self-reliance or sovereignty that increases our options - our "breathing space" - when conditions turn dire. We've brought a few of these old articles to the front page this month. It's like looking through a scrapbook.

We no longer write about "sustainability" or "self-sufficiency" very much since no one is truly "self-sufficient".  COVID taught us how much we need each other - just as we were isolated from each other. The 21st Century began with 911, cleaving our social structure and ushering in a series of divisive events of which COVID was one of the worst. Friends, families, co-workers often do not talk or confide as they used to because it's too risky in today's environment. Nearly all of us have spent more time online, whether phones, tablets, zoom, or reading the news and researching. The TLA Lifeboat is a calm place to learn what's happening as well as to find ideas for dealing with it.

Our Board is committed to keeping the Lifeboat afloat as a trusted respite for all our readers for a few more years. And, this is the one time of year when we ask you for a little help in keeping the lifeboat afloat.

PLEASE DONATE

We cannot be "self-sufficient" when it comes to our little corner of the internet because our web hosts insist on being paid with currency. Our staff are totally voluntary. All money raised goes directly to maintaining this website. Our goal is to raise $1500 for 2026. As always, once our annual fundraiser is over, we will not ask again until next autumn.

Whatever you can donate, will truly help and be gratefully appreciated. Your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed for 2025.

  • Donate by credit card
  • Donate by cash (Select "offline payment" and we'll email you our payment address).
  • Donate once, monthly, or whenever you can.

We appreciate every one of you who chips in with whatever amount works for you.  Thank you!

If there's a preparedness topic you'd like us to cover, just let us know. We appreciate your input as well as your donations!
