Local Repeater Coverage Map & Tool
Clatsop County and Vicinity
Display the coverage area for any local repeater or simplex station over this coastal county topographical map by clicking on the appropriate tab in the menu list. Wait for the coverage overlay to load before adding another coverage area. To remove an overlay, click on the associated tab again.
The map also includes points for numerous local individual stations. Operators may visualize simplex connections by clicking on these individual map points. Use for exercises, and for reference prior to field exercises and nets.
Hearing traffic on a repeater does not mean the repeater can hear you. NOTE: Coverage overlays represent the signal adequacy of an individual transmission to a local repeater or simplex station. That is, you can hear the repeater and the repeater can hear you. Many coverage maps represent only the Effective Radiated Power (ERP) of a repeater and do not indicate whether the radio operator can activate and hold the repeater.
On our coverage map the lighter color shade represents a 90% probability of:
• a 5 watt signal
• from an HT
• activating and holding the repeater
• or a simplex station receiving a good signal from a given location.
AND the darker color shade represents a 90% probability of:
• a 40 watt signal
• from a mobile unit
• activating and holding the repeater,
• or a simplex station receiving a good signal from a given location.
Remember: Signal strength and readability also depend on antenna, atmospheric conditions, elevation, and obstructions, as well as the radio.
